  • As I promised some final stats, 3751 miles in 289 hours at 12.98 miles per hour. Total climbing 173,000 ft or just about 6 times Everest! According to Garmin I used 217,000 calories. Maximum speed was 48.9mph on the A35 in Dorset. The main stat is of course raising over £10,000 for Mind. The need is immense but this is a significant contribution.

Finally thank you so much to everyone who donated, you are all so generous. Thank you to everyone who sent messages, you motivated us especially when the going got tough. Thank you to those people we got to catch up with along the way you all made the journey so much more enjoyable. My final thought is that it was quite straightforward for me, just cycle for x hours and x miles, the real difficult task was for Christina to work out buses, trains and also find somewhere for us to stay each night. I am very grateful she succeeded!

that’s all from me – final thank you to all for making it so much fun as well as raising much needed funds for Mind.

  • The day ended at home at 55 miles. Starting with the ferry from Portsmouth to Hayling Island on a glorious morning weather wise. A very straightforward journey until Wittering when my left pedal slipped and I was faced with two pedals at the same angle! I managed to get it sorted although at the bike shop in Chichester he gave me 20 miles before it broke terminally, fortunately I got back to Angmering circumnavigating the UK mainland in 55 days. Christina and I had a final lunch in Chichester before the final leg home. Not sure what we will do tomorrow but I will collate the final stats tomorrow!

  • Courses

The picture below shows one course left ‘Portsmouth’. Once there were 43 courses loaded!

  • The day ended in Portsmouth as planned at 76 miles. The start was Swanage to Studland to Sandbanks by ferry, the crossing was very pretty then time was lost as the bike repairs took about 90 minutes. A great bike shop in Sandbanks with vegan coffee shop attached! Christina and I met for a late brunch Branksome Chine which was beautiful. I spent the afternoon cycling through the new forest then battling the traffic around Southampton. From there to Gosport to catch the second ferry of the day to Portsmouth, amazingly no signage of ferry anywhere, Garmin assisted with finding till it fell into the Solent while I was definitely on dry land! Tomorrow is the 55 day and last and starts with another ferry across to Hayling Island then 50+ miles home!

  • Day 53

Day 53 ended in Swanage at 70 miles. It was a very pleasant day and I avoided getting wet! I cycled to Weymouth with Matt where he and Fiona left us, me cycling and Christina back on the train and bus! I took the detour to Portland as well. It was quite hilly this morning but it flattened out significantly in the afternoon. Tomorrow we head for Portsmouth, unfortunately I have a gear issue so that will be via a bike shop.

  • Last night we caught up with Rob from Pelsis who lives in Devon, Pelsis sponsored my shirts! Lovely to finally meet Rob in person!

  • Day 52

Ended at Lyme Regis as planned at 60 miles excitingly Matt was riding with me today while Christina enjoyed the luxury of traveling by car with Fiona for the day with Maple, it was a pretty hard day with three big hills and lots of very wet prolonged showers as well as lots of surface water, roads flooded and debris on the road. Also my front brake pad wore out again, it had lasted from Fort William. Again fortunately we were travelling through Exeter at the time and saw a bike shop who fixed the problem immediately, again really grateful and lucky. Tomorrow we head for Swanage with only 3 days to go. Very few photos today as the weather was so awful!

  • Day 49

today ended at 87 miles in Totnes, it felt like being chased by the storm all day and it started raining within minutes of us arriving in Totnes. The day started badly with the ferry cancelled so I had to cycle around the Fal peninsula through Truro to St Austell to Liskeard to Plymouth to Totnes. Going over the Tamar bridge was a particular highlight otherwise the biggest highlight was the significant tailwind! We will sit out tomorrow and let the storm pass and also Friday as Matt has decided he will cycle for the weekend. It looks like 4 days of cycling remain to get back to West Sussex so next Tuesday looks most likely
